💳 Autopay: Charge the Card on File Automatically

We're looking at autopay: automatically charging a client's card on file so collecting payment stops being a recurring task. Turn it on per client, and once a session is completed, the charge runs on its own and the receipt goes out without you touching anything.

You know the current version of this: a client owes for three sessions, you've drafted the follow-up message twice, and it's still sitting there. Autopay removes that conversation from the relationship entirely, which is better for you and honestly better for the client too.

You'd stay in control of the details: which clients are enrolled, when the charge triggers, and what happens if a card fails. Nothing gets charged that you didn't set up.

    Automatic payments are live 🎉

    You can now charge a client’s saved card automatically after each session, so you no longer have to collect payments by hand.

    How it works

    • Charges run at midnight after the session or once the note is signed

    • Self-pay clients are charged the session fee, and insured clients are charged their copay

    • Late cancellation and no-show fees can be charged automatically too

    • Any balance left after insurance pays needs your approval before it’s charged

    • Each client has a per-charge limit, set by default to your highest service price. Anything above it is invoiced and never charged automatically

    How clients opt in

    • Send the Automatic payment authorization form from the client’s Billing settings, from the Forms tab, or during intake when you create a client or book a session

    • In the form, clients save their card, agree to the per-charge limit or choose to get an email 10 days before every charge, and acknowledge the credit card notice

    • Clients can withdraw at any time from Billing in the Client Portal

    • Manage charges in Payments › Automatic charges

    One thing to know

    i’d love that feature! it would be nice to have the option to click to confirm the charge right after the session or right after the note is locked

    This is the horse out the barn scenario. As per earlier request we need billing a time of booking. That solves everything you’re talking about in here and more. I started doing this years ago I literally have no challenge with no-shows anymore. My system issues the receipt but it has the date of the session on it so they can use it for their own insurance. I simply make it clear on my policy that 48 hours notice they can cancel with full refund which meets my regulatory bodies guidelines.

    Autopay feature please!!!

    I am coming from an EHR that had autopay and it was so nice to have one less step to remember to do! Any sessions with a card on file would be auto charge at the close of day.

    Automatic charging

    For the clients who have a credit card on file, it should be automated, whether it's at the end of the session, once the note is done, or at the end of the working day. The client's card on file should be charged, and I should not have to do anything manually
