πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦ Family Therapy Support in Upheal

We're adding a family contract type so you can create a proper unit of treatment for families, rather than working around the individual or couples contract. If you do family therapy today, you've probably been improvising with workarounds, and that shouldn't be necessary.

You'll create a family contract, add two or more participants with their roles (parent, child, guardian, etc.), and designate a billing contact. From there, sessions work the way you'd expect: confirm which family members were present, capture the session using any method you already use (telehealth, in-person, dictation), and the AI generates a note with all present participants reflected in the header. New family-specific intake and progress note templates will be available in the template library, with Smart Sections that adapt to the session.

As part of this update, we're also introducing separate client reference settings for couples and family notes. You'll be able to choose how participants are identified in notes (first names, initials, or roles like "mother" or "guardian") independently from your individual note preferences. No more toggling settings between sessions or reading notes that say "Client A feels jealous of Client B." Consent forms, invoicing, and Client Portal access all work correctly for multi-participant contracts, so the family experience is built end-to-end.
